I have some great strategies to share to really boost your brain power! Including a great list of the best herbs and foods for the brain, an awesome homemade brain tea that you can mix yourself to give you clarity and focus, boosting memory and mental sharpness. These also enhance your creativity and energy. Plus, exercises, tips and further strategies to enhance your genius brainpower.

Herbs are very powerful and can be very effective at helping many health conditions. However, it’s best to be well informed about the herbs you are using before taking them. Do your research and know what you are putting into your body. That being said the herbs in this tea are very safe!

First I really need to rant a bit

I don’t rant very often. I’m pretty good with finding the positive in things, but sometimes I see something that bothers me and I really have to call it. This is what’s on my mind.

To me, it seems an obvious thing that we can eat certain foods to help our body become stronger and to help it heal from certain conditions. What you put into your body matters. So much so that it even creates the person that you are. You are what you eat. We all know that, right? I know if you are reading this, you probably are already in the same camp as me (just because you’re here!). However, it’s come to my attention that a lot of people don’t know this, and surprisingly, if not especially, people in the medical profession. I know, I know, they work on curing, not preventing. But still, I just get bewildered by this sometimes. In my world, it is so important to know this stuff. Really, we should be taught as children how to take care of our bodies, shouldn’t we? This is basic stuff that we all should know. Eat healthy foods to have a healthy body.

Ok, rant over.

Whew. Thank you, I needed that and now that we’ve gotten that basic understanding out of the way we can move on to fine tuning and boosting our brain power! And I have some awesome strategies to do this!

Herbs that are good for the brain

Gotu Kola is a powerful herb for improving mental function. It has been shown in studies to increase brain power and increase blood circulation resulting in better memory, concentration span and intelligence. It is considered an adaptogen and also lowers anxiety and stress in the body. In Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, gotu kola is considered an anti-aging herb and used to rejuvenate the mind and the body.

Ginkgo Biloba has been shown in studies to improve memory and intelligence. It has further been shown to help regenerate brain cells. Note: if you take blood thinning medications, be cautious and check with your doctor before ingesting this as it can cause brain bleeding if used with blood thinners. Other than this, the herb has been taken safely for thousands of years.

Rhodiola Rosea is considered by some to be one of the best herbs that enhance memory. Srudies have shown that in addition to improving focus and memory, rhodiola also has the ability to relieve depression.

Bacopa has been shown in studies to improve memory and mental function. It has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine, and is widely used today to enhance concentration and memory.

Ginseng has also been proven in studies to improve memory by generating neurotransmitter activity that enhances the memory. It has also been shown to improve cognitive function and is often used as an alternative to synthetic medications often prescribed for ADHD or ADD.

Sage is a studied and known memory enhancer that has active ingredients that boost the chemicals that trigger message transmission in the brain. It is shown to protect the brain against Alzheimer’s and potentially benefit those living with it by boosting the same brain chemicals that drop when one has Alzheimer’s.

Essential oils beneficial for the brain

Rosemary has been shown to improve concentration and enhance memory. It stimulates the circulatory system and reduces cortisol levels and therefore calms nerves and reduces anxiety and stress.  Rosemary is rich in carnosic acid, an antioxidant, shown to dilate cerebral vascular tissues. Studies have shown that even the smell of rosemary will improve memory performance. In ancient Greece, students often braided rosemary into their hair before taking an exam.

Basil improves mental fatigue and focus.

Peppermint is very stimulating and also very effective to boost energy, creativity and learning.

More Brain enhancing strategies

Get lots of sleep!

Practise meditation and relaxation techniques.

Listen to music.

Do exercises that are great for the brain like memory games, word games and crossword puzzles

Switch up your routine. Doing everyday tasks in a different way forces your brain to compensate and creates different neural connections in the brain. Try brushing your teeth with the opposite hand than you usually use or taking different routes to get places.

Learn new things. This can include taking up a new hobby, learning new language or playing an instrument. It can also be traveling and learning about different places and cultures..

Get moving. Physical exercise brings oxygen into the body and improves circulation which boosts brain activity. This is not only beneficial in the short term but can help prevent diseases such as dementia.

Now let me pour you a cup of tea!

Cheers, to your healthy mind with love,

Robin
