Losing that last 5 pounds – Week 1 Food Journal

It’s been 5 days since I’ve started filming myself doing workouts and I’ve learned a lot. I have learned that I need to work more on my form in certain aspects, and I can do that. I need to learn a lot about making videos, and I can do that too. But the thing I really realized is that you look a lot different through the lens of a camera than through the minds eye; I suspected that already from taking pictures, but it really shows up more in film. 

The Plan to Lose that Last 5 Pounds

So this week I am on a crash course to lose that little extra weight and I thought that I would document it here. I am going to keep a food journal of everything I eat for the next 7 days and each day will post it here below. Between doing these workouts and watching what I eat, of which the latter is harder for me, I hope to have a firm toned tummy in a week or two. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic and it will take longer. Or maybe it’s harder than I think, if not almost impossible, considering my age (48) and having had 3 kids, but I am going to try and I figure this is the best accountability I can possibly get to keep me on track. And maybe we will learn something along the way. I consider myself to have a lot of knowledge regarding natural health practises, losing weight and detoxing, albeit self taught, but still knowledge is knowledge, and so I am going to write up another post next on tips for losing weight and especially the last 5 pounds and getting rid of that little stubborn tummy fat. And I will update this post day by day with my food journal.

I want to also note that while I say ‘that last 5 pounds’, that really I don’t regularly weight myself. If I had a lot or a fair amount of weight to lose I probably would, but in general I think that measurements and how you feel, look and how your clothes fit on you are a better guideline. Pictures are probably the best and for me right now – video! So I don’t plan on weighing myself and don’t really want to lose 5 pounds, because I could easily gain a bit of muscle, lose a bit of fat and stay the same weight.

Food Journal

Day 1 – Fri, Aug 17

8:30am: 8 Chlorella tabs, a cup of tea, ½ Golden Protein Cookie (I made them, recipe coming)
9:30am: ½ -1 scrambled Egg (I ate some off my bf’s plate)
11:00am: Berry Green Smoothie (16oz) and a few Strawberries
1:30 – Leaf Salad with Edamine, Broccoli and Hemp seeds and tea with Almond Milk
4:30 – Berry Green Smoothie with Chia (1T) and Maca (1t)
7pm – Bowl of Cream of Broccoli Soup (1c), Coffee with Almond Milk, small square Chocolate, 1/4 c Mixed Nuts

Day 2 – Sat Aug 18

7am – 8 Chlorella tabs, Tea with Almond Milk, ½ Golden Protein Cookie
8:30am – Berry Green Smoothie with Chia and Maca, small handful of Nuts
10:30am – Tea and Almond Milk
1pm – Spring Roll (Salad in a rice wrapper) and Peanut Sauce (1T), Mixed Salads (aprox 1cup): Broccoli veg, Carrot slaw, Quinoa veg and ½ small Avocado
4pm – ½ (or less) Date Square and Tea with Almond Milk
6:pm – Berry Green Smoothie
7pm – Cream of Broccoli Soup (1c), ½ Corn on the cob, small plate with Basil Spinach Pesto and Zucchini noodles, Caesar Salad and a few Avocado slices

Day 3 – Sun Aug 19

8 am – Rawkalicious Cookie, Tea with Almond Milk
1 pm – small plate of Mixed Salads: Broccoli veg, Carrot slaw, Quinoa veg and 2 Flax Crackers and Hummus
4pm – Coffee with Almond Milk
5:30 pm – Berry Green Smoothie with Chia (1Tbsp) and Maca (1tsp)
7:30 pm – Green Curry Veg with small Leaf Salad  – Tea with Almond Milk after
10 pm – Tea with Almond Milk

Day 4 – Mon Aug 21

10 am – 8 Chlorella tabs, Golden Protein Cookie, Tea with Almond Milk
11 am – small handful of Mixed Nuts (1/4 cup)
12 pm – Green Smoothie
1:30 pm – leftovers for lunch – Green Curry Veg, Basil Spinach Pesto Zucchetti (heated), Salad with seeds – Tea with Almond Milk after
4:30 pm – Green Smoothie
7:30 pm – Veg stew (not great for abs, but Mom made it, so I’m eating it ;), Salad, Matcha tea and half Carob Cluster (carob, raisins, nuts, seeds etc)

Day 5 – Tues Aug 22

9:00 am – Golden Protein Cookie and Tea with Almond Milk
11:00 am – Berry Green Smoothie
1:30 pm – Falafels, Tahini Sauce, Salad
3:30 pm – Coffee with 1 Cream
4:00 pm – 12 oz Veggie Juice (beets, carrots, spinach, celery, cucumber, green pepper, ginger) and a handful of Pumpkin seeds
6:00 pm – Green Smoothie
7:30 – Veg Stew, Salad, 2 Falafels and Tahini Sauce

Day 6 – Wed Aug 23

7:00 am –  Golden Protein Cookie and Tea with Almond Milk
8:00 am – Berry Green Smoothie
11:00 am – 12 oz Veggie Juice (beets, carrots, spinach, celery, cucumber, green pepper, ginger)
1:30 pm –  ½ Mango, Leaf salad with veggies, 2 Falafels, Hummus, Tahini Sauce, 1/3 Avocado and after a Coffee with 1 Cream
5:00 pm – 1/4 c Mixed Nuts
5:30 pm – Green Smoothie with 1 Tbsp Chia and 1 tsp Maca
8:00 pm – Veg Stew with Salad. Tea with Almond Milk after and a small slice of a Date Square

Day 7 – Thurs, Aug 24

8:00 am – Rawkalicious Cookie and Tea with Almond Milk
10:30 am – Green Smoothie
1:00 pm –  Big Salad (at hospital) with Chick Peas, 
chopped Egg, Red Pepper, Olives, so many things..  Coffee with 1 cream after
3:30 pm – 1 cup of Kettle Corn (sweet and salty popcorn) and 1/4 cup Chia Protein Pudding
6:00 pm – Green Smoothie
7:30 pm – Mom’s Vegetable Stew with Green Curry Sauce, Tossed Leaf 
Salad and about 2 cups of Kettle Corn (sweet and salty popcorn) after with Tea and Almond Milk

note: I was definitely more conscientious of what I ate with keeping a food journal. I did less snacking than I usually do. ..and I feel thinner. I think this experiment was a success. I am continuing on with keeping a food journal for the next 7 days!

also note: This was my 1st bag ever of Kettle corn, dangerous stuff.. they were selling it at the hospital – you’d think it would be healthy. what’s up with that? ; ) but it was good!
